Abstract

This symposium brings together people who are actively involved in developing and delivering distance learning programs. The objective of the symposium is to share ideas on the use of distance learning technologies and promote discussion on the opportunities and challenges that emerge in using distance learning technologies to teach management courses. Speakers examine the impact such courses have on students, institutions, courses and themselves. The first speaker introduces a knowledge infusion model to discuss the challenge of simulating the classroom environment in web-based courses. The second speaker shares research findings that examine student profile, satisfaction, and impact on faculty, of Old Dominion University's satellite broadcast distance learning programs. The third speaker shares some of the limitations and issues on transferring a successful HRM course on to the web. The fourth speaker discusses how satellite broadcast technology has been used to deliver courses to students in corporate settings. Symposium presentations will be accompanied by demonstration of video based, and web based distance learning programs.
