Abstract

As major societal institutions, universities and colleges can be significant forces in efforts to move toward sustainability. In addition to conducting environmental research and offering environmental courses, higher education organizations can also "green" their respective operations, as well as encourage environmental service projects.
This workshop focuses on the sustainability aspects of all of these functions, with particular emphases on those environmental activities which have been significantly organized, funded, and implemented in the U.S. over the past several years.
Topics to be discussed include environmental research centers; environmental degree programs; "green" facilities, procurement, and transportation systems; and environmental, community and professional service activities, as well as the integration among these several sustainability opportunity areas.
