Abstract

TIM offers some of the most exciting research opportunities in the area of management and organizations. A reason for this excitement is that the technology "black-box" is opening once again. We are living in an era of neo-Schumpeterian competition where competition from new products is ever present and always disciplining. Andy Grove recognized this much when he remarked in his Academy of Management talk at San Diego, 1998, that even Intel with its dominant position must constantly rethink its position and strategy.
Intense technological change now drives managerial consciousness more than ever before. TIM probes the issues that are at the forefront of this consciousness, thereby helping open the technology black box.
What are the key issues that we must address in TIM? What research approaches are appropriate and what methods should we use? To address these and related questions, we have organized a pre-conference session at the 1999 Chicago Academy of Management Conference. We would like to create an inter-disciplinary forum for people to share different research traditions on TIM.
Check the TIM web site for updated information and pre-readings.
