Abstract

There are constant calls for the improvement in the quality of preparation that students receive at colleges and universities. For some, it is a sincere call, for others it seems to be the thing to do for political or social gain. However, introspection and the constant push for improvement is the right thing to do. If the current call for accountability makes us all aware of the need to strive harder and further to improve the quality education, then that can only be a benefit to all. This symposium was designed to add some additional insights into the call for improvement. All the panelists have extensive experience in the corporate world and in academe. Each can view the problem from both sides. The goal of the symposium is not just to find fault, but to build bridges, to build on past successes, and to help foster a better understanding of what expectations are in the corporate world. If the corporate world has different expectations toward what a "well-prepared" student is and what skills are desired; then academ needs to listen, consider and determine if the how academ might respond. This symposium is organized so that there will be time for interaction in the development of ideas as well. The goal is to develop a community of understand and ideas that will support and build undertanding "from both sides now"
