Abstract

Ways of working virtually represent a new set of organizing practices aimed at spanning the traditional boundaries of time, space, organization, occupation, and industry, as well as the less-tangible boundaries of language, status, and culture. Drawing on their empirical studies into different kinds of virtual work (such as distributed teams within and across organizations, temporary projects, and solo workers), the participants will discuss the meanings, issues, experiences and implications of such boundary spanning virtual work.
