Abstract

We have seen a significant increase in research on Strategic HRM in organizations over the past 20 years. While a literature is developing demonstrating that HRM is related to firm performance, recent work has begun to identify some methodological issues that exist within this literature. The purpose of this symposium is to identify some of the measurement issues plaguing Strategic HRM research. Most Strategic HRM models include four basic constructs: strategy, HRM, fit, and performance. The session will have one paper focusing on measurement issues with regard to strategy (Chadwick), one paper focusing on measuring HRM practices (Wright et al.), one on measuring fit among HRM practices (Delery), and one on measuring performance (Miller and Barney).
