Abstract

This session will focus on a CD-ROM tentatively titled "3M Innovation: A process of mindful replication." This title directly connects the specific 3M case "Micro-replication technology" with the theme of the conference "Change and Development Journeys into a Pluralistic World." Innovation at 3M is not an unitary phenomenon but, instead, is pluralistic, involving processes that are unfolding at many levels, across functions, employing elements of different theoretical models, and building upon institutionalized practices. In other words, there are many processes at play here, each process with distinguishable characteristics. In this session, we will also discuss the key challenges that were involved in creating the CD-ROM. Such a discussion would be valuable to participants to create an understanding of what it takes to create a CD-ROM. Equally importantly, the discussion would provide participants with an exposure of innovation at 3M.
