Abstract

While HR activities have traditionally been peformed by internal staff members, many firms have begun to outsource parts or all of the HR function in the hopes of reducing costs and improving performance. The purpose of this symposium is to provide a forum for researchers to examine what factors dermine whether firms rely on HR outsourcing and what factors determine whether HR outsourcing results in positive outcomes for organizations. Efforts will be made by presenters to develop theoretical frameworks drawing upon institutional theory, transaction cost economics, and the resource -based view of the firm. Findings from recent suveys regarding firm practices and the impact of HR outsourcing will also be presented.
